Indonesia’s import and export of aluminium cans reduced in 2017 when compared to 2016 data. The country’s aluminium can import and exports dropped around 81 per cent year-on-year in 2017. It is expected that Indonesia’s imports of aluminium cans will be more than exports in 2018.
According to recent estimates, Indonesia imported an estimated 6306 tonnes of aluminium cans in 2016. The total cost of import was USD 29 million. In 2017, the country imported an estimated 1152 tonnes of aluminium cans and the cost of import was USD 63 million.
{alcircleadd}Indonesia’s import of this product is expected to increase to 6987 tonnes by the end of this year. The cost of import is estimated to stand at USD 31 million.
The major aluminium beverage can exporters to Indonesia are Singapore, India, Taiwan and Philippines (2017 data).
Indonesia exported 1042 tonnes of aluminium cans in 2017, down from 5678 tonnes in 2016. The total value of export was USD 30 million and 5.8 million in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
The country’s exports of aluminium cans are estimated to increase in 2018. Leading beverage can manufacturer Crown Asia Pacific in 2017 launched their first plant in to meet growing demand of aluminium beverage cans in Indonesia and Asia-Pacific region.
The single-line facility produces 330 ml two-piece aluminium beverage cans and a wide range of specialty cans of varying sizes, and boasts an initial capacity of 650 million cans per year
In 2018, Indonesia is estimated to export 5675 tonnes of aluminium tonnes with total revenue amounting to around USD 24 million.
The major countries importing aluminium cans from Indonesia include Philippines, Mauritius, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia (2017 data).
