Vinca Wine, most revered for manufacturing canned beverages, have partnered with the football club Ipswich Town. To carve a sustainable roadmap and to honour the upcoming Green Football weekend, Ipswich has swapped its traditional wine provider in plastic bottles to accept organic wine served in recycled aluminium cans.
{alcircleadd}Compared with single-serve wine bottles, Vinca is far more nature-conscious and has incorporated 100% recyclable aluminium as the base metal to create its wine cans. These aluminium cans are much lighter in weight than a conventional wine bottles. They induce a circular economy where the aluminium can be infinitely recycled and used as a raw material multiple times.
This collaboration with the football club validates Vinca’s move to become a sustainable brand with a very progressive ecological approach. Moreover, the partnership supports local businessmen who wish to contribute with their ideas of sustainability and green initiatives.
The aluminium canned wine was introduced by three Suffolk school friends who had spent their lives in the vicinity and could recognise the local problems. The head of wine, Vinca, 33-year-old Jack Green, led his early life as a wine buyer before opening a wholesome business.
The sustainability quotient of canned wines is far wider and more prominent than a usual glass or plastic bottle. The maximum carbon emissions in the wine industry can be attributed to logistics and packaging. Herin, if the wine comes packed in aluminium cans, the collection is easier, and the recycling process is simpler, as the best quality of aluminium is often used in making aluminium beverage cans. The use of aluminium lessens the weight of canned wine to a great extent.
Vinca cans contain 75% recycled aluminium and can be recycled innumerable times. When compared, we find glass wine bottles only consist of 23% of recycled material on an average scale.
Vinca’s Head of Wine, Jack Green, explained: “It’s great to shake up the wine industry by selling exceptional wine in this new format, although I’m biased of course! We’re already seeing more and more venues switch to cans, which is really exciting. As we’re all Tractor Boys, being stocked at Portman Road is a childhood dream come true!”
“I’ve worked in the wine trade for over ten years. In the last year, I’ve seen more devastation to vineyards, a direct consequence of global warming, than I have in all my years in the trade. I wanted to launch a wine brand with sustainability at the heart of everything we do. Lighter shipping means we can slash our carbon footprint compared to importing glass bottles of wine. Ipswich Town is leading the charge in making changes towards slashing its carbon footprint and single-use plastic. We’re so proud to be a supplier to the Club,” he added.
The Director of Venue, Ipswich Town Football Club, Stuart Cox, commented: “We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Vinca Wine. As a club, it’s important that we do our bit to become more sustainable and reduce our carbon footprint. Partnering with Vinca Wine is just the latest step in doing that.”
“In addition to Vinca’s great taste and its environmental benefits, it’s fantastic to be working with local people and Town fans as our wine provider,” he concluded.
