Rusal, the world’s largest aluminium producer outside China, has announced its operating results for the third quarter of 2021, ended September 30. The company revealed that its bauxite production dropped 1.1 per cent Q-o-Q from 3.836 million tonnes to 3.792 million tonnes in 3Q2021. In total nine months, the production amounted to 11.429 million tonnes, up by 1.2 per cent from 11.298 million tonnes.
{alcircleadd}Alumina output in Q3 remained essentially unchanged at 2.064 million tonnes, while the total production from January to September grew 2.1 per cent year-on-year from 6.040 million tonnes to 6.167 million tonnes.
In Guinea, Rusal produced 1.694 million tonnes of bauxite in 3Q2021, which was down by 6.77 per cent from 1.817 million tonnes a quarter earlier. Rusal’s bauxite output in Russia stood at 1.730 million tonnes in Q2, which was up by 14.49 per cent from 1.511 million tonnes in Q2.
Rusal’s alumina production in Aughinish Alumina Refinery came in at 457,000 tonnes in Q3, recording an increase of 10,000 tonnes or 2.1 per cent from 447,000 tonnes in Q2. However, in total nine months, the output dipped 1.5 per cent from 1.395 million tonnes to 1.375 million tonnes.
In Windalco refinery, Rusal churned out 112,000 tonnes in Q3, 2.2 per cent higher Q-o-Q than 110,000 tonnes. From January to September 2021, Rusal’s total alumina production in Windalco stood down by 12 per cent from 392,000 tonnes to 344,000 tonnes.
In Nikolev refinery, the output in Q3 remained unchanged at 438,000 tonnes, while total production in nine months grew 2.9 per cent from 1.266 million tonnes to 1.303 million tonnes.
From January to September, Rusal’s third party bauxite sales climbed 64.6 per cent year-on-year from 96,000 tonnes to 158,000 tonnes, while alumina sales grew 4.7 per cent from 1.227 million tonnes to 1.285 million tonnes.
