Consumer Convenience Technologies (CCT), the company behind the aluminium EEASY Lid, the first major innovation in jar lids in nearly 80 years, has announced a new peer-reviewed white paper. This paper examines the removal torque and hermetic seal performance of the EEASY Lid compared to traditional jar lids.

The white paper, "New Aluminum Lug Closure Reduces Removal Torque while Ensuring Hermetic Seals in Glass Jars," highlights CCT’s EEASY Lid as a significant innovation for the food packaging industry. The study compared the EEASY Lid with traditional steel lug jar lids, the industry standard, assessing both sealing performance and the torque required to remove the lids. Jars filled with tomato sauce and sealed with both types of lids were evaluated.
The Cornell University Department of Food Science reviewed the aluminium EEASY Lid for Food Protection Trends, a publication of the International Association for Food Protection. This journal features peer-reviewed articles on applied research, current technology applications, and topics of general interest for food safety professionals.
Findings from the study
The EEASY Lid provides a hermetic seal comparable to standard steel lug closures, ensuring it does not compromise sealing performance. Additionally, jars with the EEASY Lid require 20 per cent to 51 per cent less removal torque than those with standard lids, making them easier to open.
“While we know the benefits of the EEASY Lid, third party research like this helps to further validate that the EEASY Lid is a smart accessible packaging solution for brands to offer to consumers. The torque reduction that the EEASY Lid provides, combined with its sealing performance, makes it a true food packaging innovation,” said CCT president Brandon Bach.
The EEASY Lid is currently used on products in over 500 stores, including Meijer, Wegmans, Stop & Shop, Price Chopper, and Tops Friendly Markets, as well as select specialty grocers in the Northeast United States. Additionally, it is available on products in EDEKA Kempken stores in Krefeld, Germany.
CCT manufactures the 63 mm lug EEASY Lid at its 16,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art technology centre located at the company's headquarters in Dayton, Ohio. CCT has the capability to produce approximately 800 aluminium lug EEASY Lids per minute, totalling over 250 million annually.
