CEMEX wishes to satisfy the rising demand for its flagship items by supplementing the logistic fleet with ten new low-emission tippers with enhanced safety norms and a higher payload for heightened efficiency. The aluminium body Volvo FM 460 8x4 tippers have a decarbonising effect as they are made of infinitely recyclable aluminium.
{alcircleadd}The buses are going to act as the harbingers of the company by helping CEMEX in the near future with branding and logistics. The buses are going to make communication easier across the city, with sand and other elements being delivered from CEMEX’s depot in Angerstein to various construction sites around the capital.
Owing to the lightweight aluminium body, CEMEX will be able to hike the amount of material shipped in each load. The engines of the vehicle have been optimised to meet the Euro 6 exhaust emission requirements that downsize nitrogen oxide by 80 per cent and particulate emissions by almost 50 per cent in comparison with Euro 5.
The Volvo tippers have been formulated under the provisions of Transport for London’s Direct Vision Standard (DVS). The augmented safety features of each vehicle include a side-scan system which can alert a user through screen displays if some object is coming very close or posing as a threat to the vehicle.
Moreover, each truck’s cab has A-pillars that have been risen to permit one extra cubic metre of space and more light. The vehicle is extremely windy and spacious as a large windscreen, low door line, and modern mirrors enable the driver to have full visibility.
The Fleet Engineering Manager for CEMEX UK, Nigel Ponton, exclaimed: “The addition of these new trucks to our fleet will enable us to better meet customer demand, safely and efficiently. Safety is the number one focus whenever we add new trucks to our operation, and these Volvos tick every box in that respect. One of the reasons why these vehicles stood out for CEMEX was because of the improved visibility and layout of the day cabs – providing an ideal workplace for our drivers whilst aiding the safety of other road users.”
“These trucks will all be working in busy streets across London, so it’s imperative we provide our drivers with the best tools possible to do the job and help protect any vulnerable road users. Moreover, thanks to the improved fuel efficiencies and enhanced payload, these new Volvos are the most sustainable vehicles we’ve ever had and will help decarbonise our delivery footprint,” Ponton concluded.
With large investments to gain sustainable vehicles, time and again, CEMEX has proved its commitment to the decarbonisation of its individual processes and the management of its logistics is primary to the company.
