To leap toward a sustainable future, edding, the renowned writing instruments manufacturer, has embraced a greener raw material by transitioning its flagship product, the edding 3000 permanent markers, to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminium.
This shift, set to commence in 2024, marks a significant milestone in edding's commitment to environmental responsibility.
The stationary manufacturer's history
Founded in Hamburg in 1960, edding has evolved into a global entity with a 2021 revenue of EUR 148.6 million. Their diverse product range, spanning markers, visual communication tools, digital applications, tattoo ink, and nail polish, reflects a dedication to quality and innovation. Notably, the company strategically acquired a stake in Compactor, a Brazilian writing instruments giant, in 2014. However, aligning with Strategy 2025+, edding divested its Latin American interests in 2022, emphasising a new trajectory.
Bud of revolution – edding's metamorphosis into a green brand
edding's recent partnership with Linhardt exemplifies a commitment to a circular economy. By transitioning to PCR aluminium for their flagship product, the company aims to extend the benefits of recycled aluminium to a wider audience. The gradual shift, focusing on popular items, anticipates that the majority of edding's products will be green aluminium or PCR aluminium-based by the end of 2024. This initiative ensures a seamless transition, with existing stocks being prioritised to minimise environmental impact.
edding's move towards low-carbon aluminium showcases a harmonious blend of innovation and an eco-friendly approach. As they embark on this sustainable journey, their steadfast commitment to quality and the environment remains unwavering.
