EPA “Well Pleased” with fresh Bosai tailings pond

The Senior Environmental Officer of Environmental Agency (EPA), Collins Primo, says: “The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is well pleased with the US$10,000 improvements which the Linden-based Bosai Minerals Group (Guyana) has effected to its once problematic tailings pond.”

Although he said recommendations will be done on procedures the amenities can be further improved.

A team led by Primo to inspect the facility on 29th January’20 was done to determine whether the bauxite mining company will be accorded permission to continue bauxite washing and to discard the slurry residue into the tailings pond.

Primo communicated that the decision could be done by 31st January’20, earliest or latest by 5th February’20.

The EPA instructed the Chinese company to cease the discharge of water into the tailings pond after a breach, the pond flooded of the yards of six residents of the Linden community of Noitgedacht.

Since this time, the company has been working to improve the pond. In the intervening period, its operations remained practically standstill.
