Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) welcomed Hindalco Industries Ltd (HIRAKUD FRP) as its new production and transformation member. The Hindalco Hirakud-FRP Plant (Flat Rolled Product), located in Sambalpur, Odisha, approximately 325 km from Bhubaneswar, houses one of the country's most advanced rolling mills. This factory, which covers 50 acres, was created in April 2009 after a collaborative review by Hindalco and Novelis teams.

In September 2009, the initiative received management approval. The plant was hot-commissioned in October 2012, and commercial production began in April 2013. Hirakud FRP is a low-cost world-class rolling mill facility with a 135 KT per annum rated capacity and produces around 22 per cent of Hindalco's total rolled products.
The company specializes in tight tolerance products such as Beverage Can Body Stock (CBS), foil stock (which is used to make foil), closure stock (used to make bottle caps), fan blade stock, and electronic panel stock used in the electrical, air conditioning, consumer durables, and household industries.
