According to the International Aluminium Institute, the world alumina production stood at 11.601 million tonnes in October 2021 (including both metallurgical and chemical), reflecting a month-on-month increase of 3.71 per cent month-on-month. In September, the output came in at 11.186 million tonnes, a decrease of 4.19 per cent from 11.675 million tonnes a month ago.
Total world alumina production in three months (August-October) of 2021 stood at 34.462 million tonnes, down by 2.97 per cent from 35.516 million tonnes during May-July 2021.
On a year-on-year calculation, the world alumina production in October 2021 edged 1.01 per cent higher than 11.485 million tonnes.
From January to October 2021, world alumina production amounted to 115.524 million tonnes, up by 4.97 per cent from 110.050 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
World daily average alumina production in October 2021 stood at 374,200 tonnes, 0.35 per cent higher than 372,900 tonnes in September.
In China, the world’s leading alumina producer, the output in October 2021 totalled 6.407 million tonnes, recording an increase of 3.34 per cent from 6.2 million tonnes in September. On a year-on-year basis, the production stood 1.2 per cent higher than 6.330 million tonnes. Total production from January to October this year amounted to 62.997 million tonnes, down by 6.22 per cent from 67.175 million tonnes during the same period last year.
In the Oceania region, alumina production in October came in at 1.710 million tonnes, slightly higher than 1.701 million tonnes a month ago. But on a year-on-year basis, the output stood 5.52 per cent lower than 1.810 million tonnes. Total production during January-October 2021 in Oceania amounted to 17.504 million tonnes, marginally down from 17.516 million tonnes a year ago.
