Tetra Pak has become the third end user of aluminium to be certified against Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Standard. Tetra Pak’s ASI Certification covers the central functions at the head office (Lund, Sweden) and all Packaging Material and Additional Materials sites for Material Stewardship related activities, ASI said in its press release today.
Julian Fox, Sourcing and MFG Director, Tetra Pak said “Receiving this certification, which covers all stages of the value chain for aluminium, further recognises Tetra Pak’s commitment to responsible sourcing, and a sustainable approach to business. “
{alcircleadd}“As a global company with many thousands of suppliers around the world, we have an opportunity to promote responsible sourcing practices. Which is why ASI membership and certification is a requirement for all our suppliers of aluminium foil. We believe this is the right thing to do, and also vital to remaining the packaging supplier of choice for our customers and for consumers.
On the inside of Tetra Pak aseptic cartons, a layer of aluminium eight times thinner than a human hair provides vital protection from oxygen and light, keeping perishable food safe without refrigeration.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said “We offer our warmest congratulations to Tetra Pak on their achievement of ASI Certification for the Performance Standard. Tetra Pak has been a founding member of ASI, investing considerable time and effort into ASI’s development since its inception. The company continues to place a high priority on sustainability issues and is working closely with their foil suppliers on ASI uptake. Tetra Pak’s commitment to a responsible aluminium value chain sends a clear market signal about the importance of working together for a socially and environmentally sustainable future.”
