The Players Championship, or the annual golf tournament organized by the PGA tour, has been an ardent supporter of sustainability and recyclability. As per the reports, this year, they will introduce aluminium Sawgrass Splash Cup, which can be taken home by the fans as souvenirs or given up in recycling.
Students from Flagler College and the University of North Florida will be coming forward for the recycling endeavour. According to a PGA Tour spokeswoman, the students are voluntarily joining the competition's Green Team. They will improve the tour's sustainability initiatives by assisting spectators with correctly disposing of food and beverage containers, pairing papers, and other items.
Brazos Barber, the senior manager at PGA Tours, stated the inclusion of the recyclable 16 oz. aluminium cups are a part of PGA's commitment towards rising environmental issues. For many years, the PGA Tour has urged all its events to recycle materials that may be used again or converted into new energy sources.
"THE PLAYERS and the PGA TOUR have long been committed to sustainability and protecting the environment and this year we are taking our biggest strides yet to reduce our impact. One example of this is transitioning the iconic Sawgrass Splash to an aluminum cup. The cup will still have a unique design that fans may want to keep as a souvenir, but if they choose to discard them on course, the move to aluminum will ensure that we can recycle them locally," said Barber.
The Players has long supplied recyclable plastic garbage bags or recyclable cardboard trash and recycling bins on-site. The PGA Tour has made a concerted effort to be a good neighbor and environmental citizen throughout the years.
