KEMET's aluminium polymer rectangular capacitors, part of the APL90 series, have now been added to the Rutronik portfolio. These uniquely AEC-Q200-qualified capacitors are designed to meet the stringent demands of 48V vehicle applications and platforms requiring compact designs.
{alcircleadd}The Florida, United States-based KEMET Corporation, a subsidiary of Yageo Corporation, is a leading manufacturer of a broad selection of capacitor technologies. These include tantalum, aluminium, multilayer ceramic, film, paper, polymer electrolytic, and supercapacitors. KEMET's diverse range of products helps its customers build a better tomorrow.
The series currently offers a high capacitance of 1,100µF and a rated voltage of 63VDC, coupled with good vibration resistance and high ripple current capability.
Rutronik is an independent family-owned company based in Ispringen near Pforzheim in Germany. Founded in 1973 by Helmut Rudel, it has developed from a "one-man company" into one of the leading broad-line distributors of electronic components worldwide.
A key application for these capacitors is in the automotive sector, particularly as DC links in 48V inverters for mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEVs). They are also well-suited for use in data centres, functioning as input capacitors in power supply units for 48V systems.
The APL90 series capacitors provide excellent volumetric efficiency and are ideal for operating temperatures ranging from -55°C to +125°C. Their shape is optimized for efficient module arrangement and can be positioned both horizontally and vertically. The rectangular form factor allows for easy integration with heat sinks, either along the large surface of the aluminium housing or its thickness.
These capacitors offer multiple heat sink options for optimizing IAC and are a practical solution for designs with height constraints. They boast a lifetime of 2,000 hours at +125°C with VR and IR applied, high vibration resistance up to 20g, and excellent ripple current capability up to 26A.
The APL90 series has typical applications in power inverters, wall boxes, water pumps, power steering systems, and fans. In data centres, they are used as input capacitors for 48V system power supplies. The addition of these capacitors to the Rutronik portfolio underscores their versatility and suitability for a wide range of demanding applications.
